Grooming I

The term 'grooming' as used here, implies all the things that can or should be done by cat owner to maintain your cat's appearance - including keeping the nails clipped, combing and brushing the coat, bathing, cleaning the ears and even brushing their teeth. Although cats are very good at grooming and cleaning themselves, they need a helping hand from their owners to remain in peak condition. Grooming is important not just for aesthetic reasons but also for keeping their health. This is a special time where you can check them thoroughly physically through the grooming process.

Please also bear in mind that if you are too busy to groom your cats, or you do not know how to do it, you may hire a groomer and let them handle your kitty professionally!

Nail Clipping
You may find it is challenging to do nail trimming for your cat. In that case, begin nail clipping the kitten's at early age will help your kitten get used to the procedures.Trim once in every two weeks (some cat may require trimming every week). Select a scissor-style, cat nail clipper with two cutting edges or cuticle trimmers on human toenail clippers. You must hold your cat's body and his paw properly before start clipping. You may gently press on their fingers to slowly force the claw to show. Please bear in mind that cat's claw contains a tiny thin blood vessel. Trim the nail to within 2mm in one quick motion. If you accidentally cut the blood vessel, don't get panic, use blood stop medication or septic to stop the bleeding will do.

Combing
Regular combing helps to remove the dead hair that an result in hairballs. A comb penetrate the hair better than a brush. Begin at the head and gradually working towards the tail. Lift the chin and comb the chest. Try to roll your cat on its back and comb the underside.

Long hair needs more effort from owner. Some long hair cats such like Persian requires daily brushing. The most suitable comb for Persian is wide-toothed comb. Knots can be gently teased out, however mats may need professional groomer's help to settle it. More regular combing is also required if the cat frequent have hair drop problem.
