Kusky (53) - Whiskers

Whiskers work as ruler to cats. I remembered years ago, one of mum's cat - Orange came home without all his whiskers, his whiskers were cut! We suspect someone purposely cut his whiskers so that he losses his confident to go home!

Each cat has about 24 whiskers and they come in 4 sets: on both right and left side of the upper lip and on both eyes. You may also find finer and shorter one at the cheek, on the chin and at the legs.

Whiskers on the face works as a ruler for cats to ensure he/she could go through entrance/hole without getting stacked. Once whisker touches on any surface, cats will know that they do not fit the entrance/hole.

When falling from high places, vibration of whiskers on their leg will give information to cats about distance of falling. Hence, cat will know when to turn their body and to land with 4 legs.

Whiskers are important for cats, please don't trim whiskers for your cat or cut them off!
