Setting Up for Indoor Cat

The most important thing you can do to insure you and your cat will have a long life together is to keep your cat indoor. Studies prove that in door cats live longer and healthier than outdoor cats. The indoor is less likely to be injured in a fight or car accident or acquire an infectious disease. Responsible breeders of pedigreed cats often make keeping a kitten indoors one of their conditions of sale.

Having cat at home is like having child at home, you have to ensure every single corner in the house is safe for them. That is why cat-proofing your house is essential before bringing a new kitten or cat back home. Make sure all entrance and windows are closed, electrical cords are keep in plastic tubing or put properly, chemical such like pesticide or insecticide should be keep away too.

Things that can be eaten human does not mean it's safe to be eaten by cats too. These are the food that could case life fatal to cats: onions, green tomatoes, raw egg yolk or egg (possible of salmonella), grapes and raisins, bones, chocolate and plants like philodendrons, lily and ivy.

Cats like to sleep at places like: washing machine, dish washing machine and etc. Make sure you check the machine before turning it on.

Cats like to stay up high and see the world from an elevated angle. It will be good if you could prepare them with climbing trees or places for them to go up higher. Put chair/boxes to help your senior cat to climb to higher places. For those who stays at condominium or apartments, it's best to ensure your balcony is fenced properly. Cat doesn't have 9 lives, cat won't survive falling from so high.

Note to cats: this action is forbidden for you!

Indoor cats need a lot of stimulants since they are staying in the house all day long. You could consider getting and buying them toys. These are some of the common toys for cats: teaser, soft toys, balls & etc. Kusky and Kurimu like different toys:Kusky loves bouncing balls such like table tennis ball (ping pong ball); while Kurimu loves any kind of string. The best toy is always the cheapest and easily accessible one - box! Cats love boxes!

It's good to give treats to indoor cats occasionally. Many kinds are available in the market, some come with the function to remove tartar on their teeth. Some owner do home-made treats for their pets too. Giving catnip and wheat grass to them will make them happy as well.

It will be a credit for cats to have at least a window that can view activities outside the house. Many cats like to stay near window to observe things that happen outside the house, especially when there are small animals passing or flying by. If you have a garden, you may consider preparing food for the birds to attract them near to your window.
