Cats' Accessory (II) - Cat Bed

Most kittens enjoy having their own bed, even something as simple as a cardboard box with an old towel on the bottom. Cut one side low enough that the kitten can enter and exit easily. If adding a foam cushion, choose one with a washable, removable cover.

There are variety of cat beds available in the market:
Wicket Basket: It's a traditional style basket. It's cheap however it is not washable. Even after it is washed, it's not easy to be dried out. Cats often like to chew the basket.

Plastic Basket: Similar in shape to the wicker baskets and should be lined with soft blankets or cushion. Advantages with plastic beds are that they can be disinfected in the event of a disease/parasite outbreak, such as ringworm. Plastic is washable too.

Donut Cat Bed: It is made of soft material and stuffed with soft lining. Normally it has slightly higher sides.

Cat Radiator Bed: It is usually made of wool and hung over radiators. Advantages are that it also provide a perch for your cat to watch the world go by. Disadvantages are that kittens or cats may find it difficult to jump up to.

Cat Igloo Bed: It is usually made from fabric, with a stuffed lining. It offers security, warmth and privacy to your cat.

Finding and choosing a suitable bed for your cat is very important. Normally these are the factors to be taken into consideration:
Size: It should be large enough for your cat to move around and to support your cat in all kind of sleeping postures.

Warmth: Enclosed bed hold the heat better. You will have to consider the weather around you. If it's warm, try to find cat bed that is not not too high for a better air ventilation. If the weather is cold most of the time, you may consider

Washable/Cleanable: Cats' bed need to be cleaned frequently to avoid dirt, fur and flea. It's best to choose material that is machine washable.

Comfort: Line soft bedding for your cat to make it more comfortable for them to sleep. Some cats don't really like bedding that is too soft. A semi thin bedding or cushion is good enough to provide them a comfortable place to sleep. A semi thick towel could also be used to replace cushion (easily washable).
